Happy Harvest, Happy Halloween, Happy Home

I don't know about you, but I LOVE this time of year. I love to watch horror movies, decorate with spooky decor, pumpkin EVERYTHING, and of course getting dressed up.

One of my favorite childhood memories is planning my halloween costumes with my mom and asking my grandma to create them. I always loved my handmade costumes. My favorite was Dorothy.

It's hard to get into the spirit when the stores already have Christmas out and October just started!

The holidays are a time for fun and connection, but the preparation? That can feel like chaos! If you’re hosting a Halloween party or just dealing with trick-or-treaters, getting organized ahead of time will help you enjoy the spooky season more. Here are some tips or should I say tricks? hehe to help make this season a not-so-scary one.

Spooky Halloween Storage

For Halloween, candy storage can be a game-changer. Use labeled bins for different types of candy (chocolate, gummies, lollipops) to make refilling your treat bowl quick and easy. This is also helpful for kids who can't have sugar! They can choose from a bowl of sugar-free fun.

For costume organization, create a dedicated space for accessories including masks, wigs, and makeup. Hanging organizers with clear pockets make it easy to see everything at once, so you’re not frantically searching for that one piece of the costume right before heading out the door. (This is a great tip for dance costumes too!)

Party Planning & Organization

If you're throwing a Halloween party, make use of bins to store decorations by category—lights, skeletons, pumpkins, etc. Label each bin for easy access next year.

Also, create a checklist that breaks down the tasks like decorating, preparing snacks, and setting up games while delegating to whomever is helping. This will help you avoid the last-minute scramble.

Costume Storage After the Season

Costumes tend to pile up after Halloween. Use vacuum-sealed bags to store them, especially bulky items. (I prefer these Hefty bags for travel because there is NO VACUUM needed!) Label each bag with the year and theme, so when Halloween rolls around next year, everything is ready to go. You can also use large bins for seasonal décor, making sure everything is grouped by type for easy storage and retrieval. (These Clevermade COLLAPSIBLE 16 gallon bins are great for storage and are a little larger than a typical 13 gallon tote).

Let me know what your favorite part of the season is and how I can make your organizing projects easier!

Orderly Yours,

Diane
